Look in the glovebox for RPO listings. You can also pull the rear diff cover, and find it stamped into the ring gear (and inspect the gears and replace the lube while your at it.

http://www.73-87chevytrucks.com|||i had an 86 chevy pick up and there was a sticker on the inside of the glove box that had all the option codes on it and it showed what the gear ratio was. there might also be a tag on one of the diff cover bolts that will say, or if you take the diff cover off and read what is stamped into the ring gear itself, you could find out|||the most common chevy truck gear is 3.73.if the rear diff cover is off the ratio is stamped on the carrier. their would be something like 11:41, 11 being the amount of teeth on the pinion and 41 the amount on the crown deviding them will give you the ratio 3.73. depending on yours.
