Why would a 2003 Chevy ZR-2 Tracker start for just a second and then quit and not start?

It is a 2003 ZR-2 Chevy Tracker with a DOHC 2.5 litre V-6. When you try to start it it hits and has an odor as if the gas were half burned. I am thinking it may be a timing belt but am not sure.

Also does this model have two timing belts?|||It's not a timing belt. It's more likely fuel pressure. Hard to say. I'd have the fuel filter changed first. If that doesn't do it, then you need to check out the usual suspects. Ignition, fuel pressure, ignition timing issues. Should be easy to isolate by a mechanic as it's not an intermittent problem. Probably under an hour to diagnose.
